Choking dangers

Problem: Choking and suffocation, particularly for children under 3 years old

  • Remove all small items from young children’ s reach.
  • Repair or throw away toys with loose or broken parts.
  • Check the age labeling on toys – don’t give toys with small parts to young children.
  • Plan ways to supervise older children when they use toys with small parts.  For example, older children can play games with small parts at the kitchen table away from younger children or during the baby’s nap time.
