Contaminated clothing and personal items

Problem: Spread of germs and sickness from contact with reusable items contaminated with blood, mucus, urine, feces, vomit or diarrhea.

Solution:

Place any contaminated items in a leak-proof bag (double plastic bags are good) and send it home for the parents to wash.

Be careful laundering these items in your washing machine as you may contaminate your machine and any other wash you do afterwards.

If you must launder contaminated items, take these precautions:

  • Do not mix them in with your regular wash.
  • Use a hot water wash and dry them in the dryer on High.
  • Disinfect your washing machine by running a rinse cycle with a cup of bleach poured in.
