Power outages

Problem: Falls or other injuries due to being unable to see in the dark. Refrigerators, water pumps and other essential equipment will not work.

Solution:

Buy a battery operated or rechargeable flashlight.  Check it monthly to make sure it works.  Keep it out of children’s reach.  Have a short-term supply of fresh water and blankets available and an alternate shelter to which you can move until the outage is over. Do not open refrigerators or freezers unless absolutely necessary, and pack dry ice in them if you can obtain it to preserve food temperatures.  Discard all food that was exposed to unsafe temperatures.
